NEXT-GENERATION AUDIO INTERFACE FOR TOP-NOTCH SOUND QUALITY

With the AXR4, Steinberg sets a new benchmark for audio interfaces for professional studios, producers, and musicians. Offering the capabilities and connectivity needed to create professional-quality recordings, this exceptional audio interface raises the bar with its 32-bit integer resolution and a sample rate of up to 384 kHz. Hybrid mic preamps with Rupert Neve Designs SILK emulation provide exceptional sonic control, while SSPLL technology ensures extremely low jitter. The AXR4 delivers excellence in every recording situation.

Virtual circuit modeling

VCM technology was developed by a group of engineers led by Toshifumi Kunimoto, aka Dr. K, who had already created the first physical modeling synthesizers, the VL1 and VP1. VCM allows for extremely realistic digital reproduction of individual analog circuit components, including resistors and capacitors. In addition to modeling the operation of a circuit and the interaction between its individual components, VCM offers a unique musical simulation of the sonic peculiarities of analog, including characteristic saturation and non-linearity—all subtleties beyond the reach of simple digital simulations.
Each effect has been carefully analyzed by some of the most discerning ears in the business, then optimized to produce the best sonic results for today's professional production environments. Extremely precise yet completely musical, VCM technology is the most effective approach to analog sound modeling. It is deployed in the SILK processor of the AXR4's hybrid mic preamps as well as in the EQ 601 and Compressor 276, both available in the AXR4's onboard DSP and Advanced FX Suite plugin suite. THE BENEFITS OF THE AXR4

Connecting to a wide variety of musical instruments and audio equipment, the AXR4 is the ideal interface for all professional applications. Featuring +48V phantom power, the four XLR/TRS combo inputs allow you to connect condenser and dynamic microphones as well as line-level signal sources. Inputs 1 and 2 also accept high-impedance (Hi-Z) signals, making them compatible with electric guitars and basses, MIDI instruments, studio equipment, and any other signal source. The AXR4 has the right connectivity for all professional production situations, including various analog and digital output options and additional I/O thanks to the digital connections. The AX4T also allows you to daisy-chain up to three devices via Thunderbolt 2.

Music professionals

For music professionals, having a wide range of connectivity options and exceptional sound quality is essential. The AXR4 is equipped with excellent hybrid mic preamps featuring switchable RND SILK emulation that adapts to any type of microphone. It has high-impedance Hi-Z inputs for direct connection of guitars and basses, which also allows for recording signals for reamping. Two independent headphone outputs and zero-latency monitoring with DSP effects provide individual headphone monitoring for two musicians or vocalists. The numerous analog and digital connectors allow you to connect all the equipment needed for music creation of all kinds, whether it's a master keyboard, a pad controller, guitars, etc. Easily expand the system if necessary.

The project studio

While project studios are often much smaller than large production facilities, that doesn't mean they compromise on sound quality. Every aspect of the AXR4T is designed to deliver the highest recording quality. The hybrid Class-A mic preamps deliver the legendary Rupert Neve Designs sound thanks to switchable SILK emulation, while the latest 32-bit converters and jitter-reducing SSPLL technology ensure exceptional recording quality. Individual mixes for musicians and vocalists can be easily created using the dspMixFx AXR app and zero-latency DSP monitoring. The extensive connectivity options allow not only to quickly and easily expand the recording setup, for example by adding additional mic preamps and other devices, but also to connect guitars, keyboards, and other instruments and audio sources.

All entries for large professional studios

With a comprehensive set of professional connections covering ADAT, S/PDIF, AES/EBU, wordclock and MIDI, the AXR4 can be expanded with one or two eight-channel mic preamps, professional peripherals and a host of other equipment, while SSPLL jitter reduction technology ensures perfect synchronization of all devices. Regardless of the DAW, the comprehensive dspMixFX AXR matrix mixer makes setup, routing and latency-free monitoring with effects easy, with Cubase users also able to control all these features from a dedicated panel. 32-bit converters with sample rates up to 384 kHz and AXR hybrid preamps with RND SILK processing deliver perfect recording quality to any professional recording studio. Three AXR4Ts can be daisy-chained via Thunderbolt 2 to provide 84 inputs and 72 outputs, which is sufficient for most professional recording situations and for analog summing.
