Skadi Quick Start Guide: KEF Wireless Speakers

(Applicable Models: LS50 Wireless II, LSX II, & LSX II LT)

Congratulations on upgrading your audio! Your new KEF speakers deliver incredible, audiophile-grade sound. Because these are advanced, high-fidelity smart speakers, they require a quick digital setup before they will play any sound.

If your speakers are plugged in but seem unresponsive, don't worry—they are almost certainly not defective. They are simply waiting for you to introduce them to your home network!

Follow these 3 simple steps to get your music playing.

Step 1: The Physical Setup

Before opening your phone, let's get the wiring right.

  • Identify the Primary Speaker: By default, the Primary Speaker is the Right channel, and the Secondary speaker is the Left channel. But you can setup how you like.
  • Connect the Speakers to Each Other:
    • For LSX II LT: You must connect the provided USB-C inter-speaker cable between the Primary and Secondary speakers. Make sure the cable is inserted into the correct "(T) To P/S" connection ports on both speakers. This single cable sends both power and audio to the Left speaker.
    • For LS50 Wireless II & LSX II: These models have individual power cords and connect to each other wirelessly by default. You can optionally use the provided Ethernet cable between the two speakers if you prefer higher sound resolution (96 kHz/24 bit) or if your wireless connection is unstable.
  • Plug into Power: Plug the Primary speaker (and the Secondary speaker, if applicable) into your wall outlet. The LED light on the Primary speaker will begin flashing white and amber, meaning it is ready to connect.

Step 2: Download the "KEF Connect" App

🛑 STOP! Do not try to use Bluetooth yet. A home Wi-Fi network is required to set up the speakers and unlock their features.
  • Download the free KEF Connect app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
  • Ensure your phone is connected to your home Wi-Fi.

Step 3: Onboarding & Firmware

  • Open the KEF Connect app and follow the on-screen instructions to get the speakers connected to your home Wi-Fi network.
  • Crucial Step - The Update: Once connected, the app will likely prompt you to perform a Firmware Update. Running firmware updates can solve bugs and unlock new features.
  • Be Patient: Do not unplug the speakers or close the app during this time. Once the lights turn solid, your setup is complete!

Troubleshooting

"I can't find the speaker on my phone's Bluetooth menu."

As mentioned above, you must complete the Wi-Fi setup via the KEF Connect app first. Without an internet connection, you will miss out on important updates and severely limit the usability of the speaker.

"The Secondary (Left) speaker is powered on, but has no sound."

  • Because these are advanced systems, the Primary (Right) speaker does all the heavy processing. If the Secondary speaker has power but no audio, the connection between the two speakers has been interrupted. Here is how to fix it based on your specific model:
  • For LS50 Wireless II or LSX II (Wireless Mode): The speakers are paired at the factory. If the connection is lost (indicated by the Primary speaker's LED blinking white and blue), briefly press the P/S (Primary/Secondary) pairing button on the back panel of the Primary Speaker to re-establish the connection.
  • For LS50 Wireless II or LSX II (Wired Mode): If you connected the Ethernet cable between the speakers, you must enable "Cable Mode" inside the KEF Connect App. If Cable Mode is not toggled on, the speakers will not recognize the physical wire.
  • For LSX II LT: Check your cable seating. Make sure the USB-C inter-speaker cable is firmly inserted into the correct "(T) To P/S" connection ports on both the Primary and Secondary speakers.

"The speaker isn't showing up in the KEF Connect App."

  • Ensure the LED light on the Primary Speaker is blinking white and amber.
  • Make sure your phone, the speakers, and the router are close to each other (line of sight is best).
  • The speakers broadcast their setup signal on Channel 2 (2.4 GHz band). If your home router overlaps this channel, it can cause discoverability issues.
  • The Ultimate Fix (Factory Reset): A factory reset clears previous network settings and all system preferences. Press and hold the Reset (R) button on the back panel of the Primary Speaker until the LED light above the button blinks. Once reset, start the setup process over again.
